I used a photo that I can't say for sure is stock or not, but I'll be damned if I remember where the heck I found it. I have a tendency of just saving pictures I like without marking the owners name.
This is a birthday present for my best friend, because we both like to belly dance and they are so sparkly. the dancers that is.
I started off with this painting being entirely watercolour.... as I always do with everything... then I ended up using mostly guache, and in the end I was using anything I could get my hands on. In fact most of her "garb" is various nail polishes dotted on with the tip of a pencil, as well as the swirly dot designs on the fabric and in the background. you can't really see from the scan, but there is blue nail polish in her hair where the light would be hitting it. The scan really doesn't do any justice, as when you see it in person, the light hits the nail polish and it glitters as though she is really swinging her bust in your face. *DUNG-dunka-DUNG-dunka-DUNG-dunka*
again, the red. this really works for me, perhaps more so done with mixed media than it would have had you stuck to the watercolours. sometimes maybe it can make an image, just adding some different surfaces, that added variation tightening the image up, making it look that little bit more complete. in this case, the areas you did with the nail polish are just delightful, and while no scan can ever do a piece, especially a mioxed media piece, justice- its fairly clear to me that this looks good. its a really nice piece, your colours are wonderful, your detailing really excellent, and the composition. . . perfect.
This is gorgeous. I love the paint texture in the cloth, it has a lot of movement, and your use of nail polish is great. I love the little bits of highlight and flare that it adds. I noticed her shiney hair right away....after what you said, I bet this is truely stunning in life. Nice work.
I think it's gorgeous.. I love the vibrant colors and I think the nail polish technique really makes her clothing stand out.. also I love the shades of purple on her belly..
